When Bob and Debbie Russell purchased the Mill in 2006, it almost didn't happen. The building was so old that no insurance company wanted to take the risk. Lloyds of London was the only company that would insure the Mill, for a minimal amount, but it made the sale possible. Even after several improvements were made, Lloyds of London was still the only company who would insure the Mill.
Unfortunately, the minimal amount that the insurance offered just covered the expensive costs of cleanup after the fire. To restore the Mill to its former glory, rather than just building a new structure and losing a piece of history, the Foundation was formed to raise money and secure grants. The Foundation is now the owner of Butte Creek Mill and is a non-profit entity.
