Southern Style Cornbread

Southern Style Cornbread
Ingredients
  • 2 cups Cornbread Mix
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
  1. Beat eggs, add buttermilk.
  2. Add soda to Cornbread Mix, add to liquid and mix well.
  3. Warm 8 x 8 pan in oven with butter (till melted).
  4. Add mix and bake at 450° for 30 minutes.

    Your recipe calls for salt & the directions call for soda. Which is correct?

    I was born in southern Georgia in 1946 and raised on Southern Cornbread. When I moved to Seattle in 1979, I discovered that some folks made corn cake not cornbread because they added sugar and wheat flour to make it. Deep thanks to you for making it possible for me to have comfort food for my body and soul – so far from my childhood roots – by making REAL Cornbread in Seattle for all these years. Thank you!!!!!
